The Importance of Forest School Activities in Preschool Education
The Forest School approach helps children learn by bonding with nature, building physical resilience and developing problem-solving skills.
What Is Forest School?
Forest School is a long-running educational approach in which children learn by experiencing — guided by their own curiosity and interests in natural settings. At Açı Premium School we spend one day a week with our children in the forest, supporting their physical, emotional and social development holistically through this process.
Impact on Child Development
Forest school activities feed many essential skills through the bond children build with nature:
- Physical resilience: Moving in the open air supports balance, coordination and muscle development.
- Problem solving: The open-ended materials nature offers invite children to try and produce unique solutions.
- Environmental awareness: A child who observes seasons, living things and cycles on site develops habits of life that respect nature.
- Social-emotional skills: Collaboration within a group, taking turns and emotional balance are gained through daily practice.
Forest Day at Açı Premium School
Our weekly forest day is one of our school’s most loved and most effective programs. On this day, our children explore, move and build strong bonds with nature. The lasting nature of nature-based learning comes from the child’s contact with life — internalizing knowledge through real experience.
“Let them go outside.” — This sentence at the heart of the Forest School approach reminds us that nature is the most powerful learning space in child development.
